John Wilson
Head Winemaker

John was born in Berkeley California and grew up in nearby Orinda. After completing high school he attended University of Colorado at Boulder where he studied Spanish Literature and Economics. His passion however for food and agriculture ignited his interest in wine and led John to take a position as a Harvest Intern in 2005 at Blankiet Estate. Certain that a life in winemaking was for him, John then secured the position of Cellar Master under Thomas Brown at Outpost Wines, where he remained from 2006-2010, interrupted only by an internship in Argentina under Paul Hobbs. These experiences paid off and, feeling the desire to focus on Pinot Noir, John was able to land the prestigious position of Assistant Winemaker at Littorai Wines, under acclaimed winemaker Ted Lemon, where he worked from 2010-2014. Having learned from some of California’s best winemakers, the time came for John to run his own cellar, and Thomas George Estates was lucky enough to bring him onboard in time for harvest in 2014.

John is an avid outdoorsman, whose favorite thing is to spend time with his wife Mary Rob and beautiful daughters Henrietta and Meade.
