BAKER RIDGE VINEYARD, BACKBONE BLOCK – RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY

The 2017 Pinot Noir from Baker Ridge Vineyard, Backbone Block offers a sophisticated and expressive profile. With aromas of Dark cherry, red plum, forest floor, baking spice, and subtle notes of cedar and clove, this full-bodied wine balances vibrant acidity with fine-grained tannins.

Why we love this Wine

The 2017 Backbone Block Pinot Noir tells the story of one of the Russian River Valley’s most historic vineyard sites. Originally named by Davis Bynum in the 1970s, the Backbone Block at Baker Ridge became famous for its heritage Martini clone vines — prized for their depth, balance, and structure. This small, east-facing parcel formed the foundation of Bynum’s early single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and continues to define the legacy of Thomas George Estates.Aged sixteen months in French oak (25% new), this Pinot Noir balances dark cherry, red plum, and forest floor with elegant spice and supple tannins. It represents both the strength of the site and the grace of its final vintage before replanting in 2018 — a true piece of Russian River Valley history.
